How to Get Fit with Zombies on Your Tail

This is so cool, it’s worth a mention. I’ve talked about zombie walks and pub crawls before–the undead have so few chances to get out and socialize–but how about using zombie evasion tactics to improve your fitness?

Zombies Run! is an awesome iPhone and Android app (or as the web site says, an “ultra-immersive running game”) that puts you front and center in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. The horde is coming, and you have to keep moving to achieve your objectives. here’s how it works:

  1. Download the game to your device.
  2. Slip on those running shoes, do a few stretches and hit play.
  3. Listen to your own music and in between tracks listen to various radio messages and recordings. You’ll also hear them coming. The groans, screams and ragged breathing. Or maybe that’s just you!
  4. As the game (and your run) unfolds, you have to collect medicine, batteries and ammo to stay alive, solve puzzles, uncover secret documents, all the name of saving the rest of the survivors and expanding your base of operations.
